    CEO @ Ozinga | 5th-Generation American 🇺🇸 Family Enterprise - 100 Years in 2028 | Net Zero Carbon Neutral Concrete by 2030

At Ozinga, we’re on a mission to deliver net-zero, carbon neutral concrete by 2030—and we’re already making significant strides. This chart shows the embodied carbon per cubic yard for five different concrete mixes: NRMCA national averages for concrete with: • 100% Portland cement: 327 kg CO₂ • 20% Fly Ash replacement: 280 kg CO₂ • 40% GGBFS replacement: 226 kg CO₂ And concrete with: • Ozinga CarbonSense Cement (ASTM C1157): 101 kg CO₂ As well as our 2030 goal. • Ozinga 2030 Goal: 0 kg CO₂ These aren’t just lab numbers. The Ozinga CarbonSense cement was recently used on the award-winning Amazon Web Services (AWS) data center project in New Carlisle, Indiana, in partnership with Clayco and Concrete Strategies LLC. - a real-world proof point of what’s possible when innovation meets performance. We believe concrete that is durable, low carbon and economical is within reach —and we’re building that future, one project at a time. When someone says they’re celebrating 25 or 40 years… My first thought? A wedding anniversary. Not a work anniversary. But at Ozinga, it’s happening. Some people have been here 25, 30, even 40 years. That kind of longevity is rare. And it’s a gift. Because when you work with people like that, you could gain: 🔹Mentors 🔹Role models 🔹Examples to follow As a recruiter, I talk with professionals ready for a change,   looking for a place to grow, be valued, and make a positive impact. Maybe Ozinga could be that place for you. #NowHiring #Careers #Motivation #Mentoring

My dad used to call a business loss “tuition.” It was his way of saying: you paid for a lesson—don’t waste it. It wasn’t about dismissing the loss—it was about reframing it. We may have lost money, time, or momentum—but we gained wisdom. And that made it worth something. It’s interesting—many of us are willing to invest heavily in formal education, consultants, training seminars, and leadership offsites. We see those costs as necessary investments in growth. But are we just as willing to view the risks we take, the mistakes we make, and the setbacks we face on the job, as investments in learning, too? At Ozinga, lifelong learning is one of our core values. This mindset—treating on the job setbacks as tuition—has shaped our culture over generations. But the lesson doesn’t stop there. It also teaches us about risk. Because entrepreneurship requires courage. If you’re unwilling to take a risk, you won’t grow. But if you take a risk knowing that even a loss can yield a return—a very valuable education —you can build that into your risk/return calculation. And it guides us as we think about service. Because the lessons we learn aren’t just for ourselves. We pass them on. We use them to help stretch our people and build stronger teams, serve our customers better, and have a lasting impact on future generations. And yes, my dad would still caution: “Some tuition is too expensive.” That was his reminder to be wise. To seek counsel. To know your limits. Not every mistake can afford to be made and doesn’t need to be, if you’re humble enough to listen and learn from others. Looking back, that simple framework resonates with me more than ever and it helps shape my day to day decision making in profound ways. And it’s consistent with all three of our values: Service, Learning & Entrepreneurship. I’m incredibly thankful for mentors like my dad—and grateful for the privilege to pass along what I’ve learned from them. I hope it encourages you as you reflect on the setbacks you’ve faced—and the risks you’re considering taking in this life. #LifelongLearning #Leadership #FamilyBusiness #Entrepreneurship #Service #Legacy #GrowthMindset

The Slag Cement Association (SCA) announced our Low-Carbon ASTM C1157 Slag Cement Mix AWS project as a winner of its 2024 Slag Cement in Sustainable Concrete Awards. An Amazon Web Services (AWS) data center campus in Indiana was constructed using ASTM C1157/C1157M compliant cements comprising high percentages of slag cement. Building on ambitious carbon reduction goals set by the owner, an extensive testing effort was executed at Clayco/Concrete Strategies’ test yard in St. Louis, MO, USA. Three full-height tilt-up panels with varying levels of carbon reduction were cast and erected. As a result of the testing program, the project’s foundation was constructed using a concrete mixture with a global warming potential (GWP) of 103 kgCO2e/yd3, an impressive 60% below the NRMCA V3 2020 Great Lakes Midwest Regional benchmark. Additional mixtures used on site incorporated ASTM C1157/C1157M compliant cements with slag cement contents ranging from 10 to 40% by mass. “We are very grateful for this recognition from the SCA,” said Ryan Cialdella, Chief Mission Critical and Decarbonization Officer. “We believe that more successful deployments like this one will lead to further learning and growth in the mission critical space and look forward to progressing towards greater reduction of embodied carbon.” Fourteen construction projects from across the United States and Canada were chosen to showcase the broad applications of slag cement and its impact on creating more durable and resilient concrete. These construction projects were awarded in six categories. The categories include infrastructure, high performance, architectural, durability, innovative applications, and lower carbon concrete. We are honored to have been chosen for this award. Thank you to the Slag Cement Assoc. and congratulations to all other winners!
